Welcome to [herb]Ελλάδα (herb, meaning herbs, and Ελλάδα, meaning Ellada-Greece in Greek), your opportunity to bring a piece of Greece home with you. We have developed a connection to Greece over many years. We first encountered it outside of vacation life in the 1980s, but it took a good 10 years, until the end of the 1990s, for it to become a life. After many years in the restaurant industry in Germany, we moved to Greece, to Thessaloniki. Since few well-known people lived in the area, this was a good place to start. The idea: to bring something to Greece that didn't yet exist, and after a while we found it – the pretzel, still completely unknown outside of hotels and only rarely found there, was what we wanted to bring to Greece. As with everything, the beginning was small, it started with a basket and street sales, here and there it slowly found favor and became more and more well-known, over the years a business developed in which street sales were no longer the focus, but increasingly the supply of bakeries and soon also hotels.

Towards 2004, interest shifted somewhat. The Thessaloniki business was "abandoned" in favor of Athens, the capital city being the focus. Just in time for the 2004 Olympic Games, we began to spread the word about pretzels in and around Athens, this time not through street sales, but directly through bakeries, hotels, and events. After a few years, we decided to open a "pretzel café" in the heart of Athens - in Psirri. We ran this for a few years in addition to our wholesale business. And when we say "we," that was the point where not only I, Rainer Marin, but also my son, Fabian Marin, got involved. It was primarily due to his age that this was now possible, and sufficient interest and understanding had been aroused in him.
